National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) President Gou Yih-shun (郭義雄) took the lead of NTNU athletes and vowed to glorify the school during the 2009 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG), as what they did this year.

"We have sufficient facilities for all kinds of sport matches here while most of us are already geared up for it. I am quite confident we will be a qualified host for the game next year,” Gou said during a press conference in front of the main campus’ front gate today.

In addition to music students’ band music performance, NTNU gymnastic athletes also presented their performances at the scene, while graduate student Huang Tai-yi (黃泰益) from the Department of Athletic Performance showed his six-packs and ring performance, while he took advantage of the construction of the front gate as his prop.

"I am confident at ring performances. It was my first time to perform rings up in the air like this. The most challenging part was how I was supposed to get up there,” Huang said.

While Gou encouraged NTNU athletes to continue this year’s glory, that NTNU athletes won the most gold medals, NTNU gymnastic athlete Chen Chuen-min (陳純敏), who is also a junior from the Department of Athletic Performance, said that they are aiming for the gold this year, too.

"Rhythmic gymnastics is my major and I have been trained for this for several years. My fellow athletes and I definitely determined to win the gold,” she said.

Among 13 sports for the 2009 NIAG, rhythmic gymnastics was newly added.

NTNU athletes won a total of 50 gold medals from this year’s NIAG and were recognized as the “best athletic spirit” winners. In addition to hosting next years NIAG, Gou has constantly encouraged NTNU athletes to continue to honor that spirit and do their best during the game.
