NTNU Students Pick Their Favorite Books for Free at Eslite

<p>By Kevin Tang<br /> Campus Reporter</p> <p>Fifty National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) students picked the books of their choice entirely for free at the Eslite Xin-Yi bookstore today.</p> <p>The event, which was organized by the NTNU library, aimed at creating library archives suiting the students&rsquo; needs better.&nbsp; Application was made available through internet, and each of the first 50 applicants was given the opportunity to pick ten books, regardless of price, size or genre, and make them part of the NTNU library archives.</p> <p>&quot;What&rsquo;s better than letting the students choose their books for themselves?&rdquo; Cathy Tsai (蔡妍芳), member of the Kungkuan Library staff, said.</p> <p>Many students expressed their joy at the sight of this occasion, especially those from the College of Arts, for reasons pertaining to the price of the books and their unavailability in the campus library archives.</p> <p>Alan Wu (吳承峰), of the Graduate Institute of Design, said that when it came to the fields of arts and design, updates in the NTNU library were slow in coming.</p> <p>&quot;Quite often, we just cannot find the latest books in NTNU,&rdquo; Wu said.&nbsp; &ldquo;And when we try to buy them outside, we find ourselves unable to afford such expenses.&rdquo;</p> <p>Wu, along with five classmates from the Graduate Institute of Design, picked a total of 60 books which, he said, would be used in preparation of a graduation fair next year.</p> <p>The event of free book picking has taken place twice in the past two years, each time echoing the celebration of the National Library Week in Taiwan, which is the first week of December.&nbsp; Kungkuan Campus Library Director Lucila Lu (呂智惠) mentioned the probable plan to repeat the event next year.</p> <p>&quot;Eslite provided us with a great deal of opportunities this year,&rdquo; Lu said.&nbsp; &ldquo;And we should continue to give the students these opportunities.&rdquo;</p>
