Forum: Reading Phenomena of Popular Science
Why are Taiwanese readers indifferent to popular science publications? NTNU Library held a forum to discuss the phenomena with NTNU professors including Hong Wan-Sheng from the Department of Mathematics, Library Director Chen Zhao-Zhen, etc. The forum pointed out issues in Taiwan’s popular science publication and suggested ways to encourage the readers’ interest. For example, NTNU Library has designed a series of activities in corresponding to the two major events in the science circle: UN’s declaration of 2009 being International Year of Astronomy and the global-wide Darwon200 activity in commemoration of the bicentenary of Darwin’s birth.
