NTNU to provide overseas teaching internship program

Professor Woon Chia Liu and G.C. Ivy Tan of the National Institute of Education (NIE) of Singapore visited NTNU on Jan. 8 this year. They signed an agreement with NTNU, which will initiate a 5-year bilateral exchange teaching internship program in 2013. The National Institute of Education is a scientific research-oriented university and is internationally reputed for its science and engineering studies. For years it has been the only university providing teacher training programs in Singapore, offering quality preparation training and developing related programs. It has also offered consultation services to other Singaporean education institutions with its superior software and hardware.

NTNU Reached 22nd in New QS Subject Ranking

QS World University Rankings of global higher education for 2015 were announced on April 29th. NTNU is now ranked 22nd in the world in the subject of education, moving up 20 places compared to last year’s ranking. Thus, NTNU is now ranked higher than any other Chinese speaking normal university. Moreover, NTNU has now entered the rankings in a total of seven subjects, three more than last year. The newly ranked subjects include electrical engineering, information science and chemistry. The new rankings show that NTNU has truly become a comprehensive university.

NTNU Achieves its Highest Ranking in Years in QS Asia

QS University Rankings recently announced the new rankings for Asian universities for 2014. Last year, NTNU was ranked 85th. This year, NTNU moved up ten places to number 75, which is the highest ranking NTNU has achieved in recent years. Moreover, NTNU showed marked improvement in a number of indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio and internationalization.

A Master Class by Violinist Kloss

Violinist Sherry Kloss, successor of internationally renowned violinist Heifetz and his violin, was invited by Chen Qin-Hong from the Department of Music, NTNU to have a master class on the 14th of April. Kloss encouraged students who were aspired to be a teacher to develop the potential of their students. “If you can do more than one thing, then go for it,” remarked Kloss. She had a musically gifted student who ended up going into the field of physics and architecture. It is her responsibility as a teacher, she said, to let her students explore the world of music care- and pressure- free.

Singapore’s Deputy Director Guo Visited NTNU

In order to understand and assess the policy and realization of civic and moral education, Kok Lee-Kwuang, Deputy Director of Aesthetics, Health and Moral Education Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Department, Ministry of Education, Singapore, visited NTNU to call on Professor Li Qi-Ming at the Department of Civic Education and Leadership. Professor Li was an important researcher on Taiwan’s civil and moral education. To provide Taiwan’s experience as Singapore’s reference, Professor Li examined Taiwan’s civic education from viewpoints of educational environment, curriculum, policy, teachers’ development and trend. Deputy Director Kok and her colleagues had no doubt had heard a lot of useful information.
