Big Deta Helps Picking the Right Level of Books

Every teachers and parents hope kids can enjoy reading, but sometimes they just can’t digest the context and put the books aside. It’s likely that the books are too hard for the child to understand. Prof. Sung Yao Ting developed a SmartReading system that tells you the difficulty of the book automatically and you can know the reading comprehension level of a student in short time. The system has been taken into application by 30 junior and elementary schools and has been introduced to Hong Kong and Indonesia.

NTNU starts the First Global Fashion EMBA in Taiwan

The first cross faculty EMBA in Global Fashion on the job training program is now established by NTNU. The EMBA program is led by NTNU, NTU and NTUST and the giants of the industry, bringing Taiwan to the top of the fashion business in the world. Fashion is always the hot topic of culture and creative industry in Taiwan and abroad. To cultivate Taiwan as a fashion land, NTNU has now established the first Global Fashion EMBA (GF-EMBA) and the class will start in 2016 which aims to educate those who are interested in global branding, marketing and fashion management.

Asia Options Rates MTC as the Best Language Center in Taiwan

Asia Options, an online platform that connects Australia’s future leaders with opportunities to engage with Asia, echoed with the Chinese language learning policy of the Australian government and launched a review on Mandarin Learning Center in Asia. Overall, the prestigious Mandarin Training Center of NTNU was rated 8.9 out of 10 and earned the title of the best mandarin leaning center in Taiwan.

Visiting Professor Yang Peidong Receives MacArthur ‘Genius Award’

UC Berkeley chemist Yang Peidong who is also a Visiting Professor at NTNU has been named a MacArthur “genius” Fellow for his effort trying to capture carbon dioxide from the air and turn it into a sustainable transportation fuel. Yang will stay in NTNU from this January to next December doing research in the Department of Chemistry. He was invited to be the speaker of the forum of Recent Progress on Nanomaterials Research held by the Department of Chemistry this June.

NTNU Discloses the Secret of El Niño-Typhoon Relationship

According to previous studies, when El Niño happens, typhoons of the West Pacific will originate from the East whose warmer water can get typhoons started. Also, due to further distance from the land, it’s reasonable that during El Niño, typhoons of larger scales will occur. However, the data shows that during El Niño, the intensity of typhoons is the same as in non- El Niño conditions. Scholars has found the negative process of typhoon during El Niño and disclosed the development of typhoon intensity. The article has been published on the July issue of Nature-Scientific Reports.
