Zebrafish Embryos Expose Cisplatin's Kidney Damage Pathway

Traditional animal experiments often rely on mice and rabbits, but they often spark ethical controversy. Distinguished Professor Li-Yih Lin of the Department of Life Science at National Taiwan Normal University leads a research team that makes effective use of a zebrafish embryo model to successfully elucidate the nephrotoxic mechanism of the chemotherapeutic drug, cisplatin. This work has not only opened up a new direction for developing protective drugs that counter nephrotoxicity, but also highlights the innovative value of alternatives to conventional laboratory animals, which is aligned with international standards that increasingly emphasize animal welfare.

Looking to boost your cognitive performance? A single session of exercise may produce immediate benefits. A new study led by Chair Professor Yu-Kai Chang of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at National Taiwan Normal University, in collaboration with Distinguished Professor Jennifer Etnier of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Dr. Shih-Chun Kao of Purdue University, has just been published in Psychological Bulletin. The team presents pioneering evidence on the effects of a single acute bout of exercise on cognitive function.

NTNU Strengthens Academic Ties with Leading Eastern European Universities

In early December, President Cheng-Chih Wu of National Taiwan Normal University(NTNU) led a delegation including Executive Vice President Frank Yung-Hsiang Ying, Dean of the College of Science Jein-Shan Chen, and Vice President for International Affairs Yi-De Liu on an official visit to Poland and Romania. The delegation visited the University of Warsaw (UW), the “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia (UAB), and Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB). The visit aimed to strengthen academic collaboration with leading Eastern European institutions, expand international mobility opportunities for students and faculty, and explore multifaceted cooperation in research and talent development.

Taiwan–Japan Academic Exchange Connects AI Education with Global Tech Industry

A three-day academic exchange program from December 2 to 4 brought faculty representatives from Osaka University to campus for discussions and industry visits focused on artificial intelligence education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Hosted by the College of Interdisciplinary Industry Academia Innovation, the visit strengthened institutional ties and explored pathways for future dual-degree programs, joint courses, and industry–academia cooperation.

University of Bordeaux Visit Explores Expanded Academic Cooperation

A delegation from NTNU’s partner institution, University of Bordeaux, visited from November 27 to December 2, 2025, for a series of academic exchanges hosted by the Office of International Affairs, the College of Sports and Recreation and its Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, and the College of Technology and Engineering and its Department of Electrical Engineering. The visit focused on strengthening existing ties and exploring additional areas of cooperation.
