Mandarin Teacher from NTNU Went to Russia to Teach Traditional Characters

The Ministry of Education start “The 8-year project of construction and application of Mandarin” in 2009 with an aim that Mandarin teachers can be the pusher of Taiwanese culture. So far, 607 people went to United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Paraguay, Mexico and Malawi to teach Mandarin, expanding the world map of Taiwanese Mandarin teaching. This year, 130 people are selected to 15 countries. On September 7th, a press conference was held, inviting teachers that went teaching overseas to share their experience.

Kate Hsu Becomes the Youngest Speaker of Commencement Speech at NTNU

Kate Hsu, the 29-year-old Alumni, and the Taiwanese Catalyst for Design For Change. Hsu gave up her job as a teacher in Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, and went to the riverside school filmed in the movie “3 idiots” and contacted the principal, Kiran Bir Sethi. She started the Design For Change in Taiwan and teach children to stop complaining and start to change. Being the youngest speaker at graduation ceremony, Hsu shared her story with the students. The topic is “You are more powerful than you can imagine”. Kate has wanted to become a teacher since she was little. After getting the job as a substitute of a teacher, she thought she could teach forever. However, she discovered that students cared so much about the grades on their test papers and forgot that the most important thing is to enjoy the process of learning and progressing.

Two Prof. from NTNU Enters the Government

Lists of government officials were announced on 10th of May. The associate Professor Wang Ming Huey from the Department of Geography is assigned to be the Deputy Minister of the Council of Indigenous Peoples while the Professor Tsai Hui Ming from the Graduate Institute of Environmental Education is assigned as the Deputy Minister of the Atomic Energy Council.

NTNU Aids Students for APhO and Brings 3 Gold

The result of Asian Physics Olympiad 2016 came out on 6th of May. Under the training of professors from NTNU, the Taiwanese team bring back 3 golden medals, 1 silver medal, 3 copper medals and 1 honorable mention. Among 27 countries and regions and 193 students, Taiwan is ranked only second to China.

Professor’s Work Became Covers of Magazines

The work of Leo Lin, Chun-Liang, Professor of Department of Design and the Dean of College of Fine Arts, was given the silver award at the 89th New York Art Directors Club Annual Awards. In echo with global warming, this piece was authorized to be the cover of French magazine Le Monde and Italian magazine Internazionale in 2015.
