Team of Lin Si Min from Dept. of Life Science Discover Buergeria Otai

Do you know that the sound made by frogs can be the clue to discover a new species? Prof. Lin Si Min with students Wang Ying Han, Hsiao Yu Wei discovered a new species of tree frog in Taiwan through sound and behavior. The result, “Acoustic differentiation and behavioral response reveals cryptic species within Buergeria treefrogs (Anura, Rhacophoridae) from Taiwan”, was published in September on PLOS ONE.

NTNU and National Defense University to Train Army Interpreters

To train professional army interpreters, National Defense University signed an agreement with NTNU for "Army Interpretation of International Program of Institute for National Strategic Studies". The courses will be taught by teachers from the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation. On the signing ceremony, President Chang Kuo En said that both universities have been home to military elites and educational elites. With this cooperation, they can find more talent together.

NTNU and National Museum of Natural Science Discover Pachyrhynchus Jitanasaius

The Department of Life Science of National Taiwan Normal University and National Museum of Natural Science have published papers about the “striped” Curculionidae that only live in the Green Island. Pachyrrhynchus is only found in the Orchid Island and the Green Island and many of them are protected species. Recently, the two institutes discovered the pachyrhynchus jitanasaius that is endemic to Green Island.

NTNU Teams Up with UCLA for Taiwan Studies Initiative

An academic cooperation agreement was signed by NTNU and UCLA. The three-year UCLA-NTNU Taiwan Studies Initiative provides funding for faculty and student exchanges, graduate fellowship support, and workshops and lectures. An annual conference will be convened each year with scholars from UCLA and NTNU participating. NTNU and UCLA will work together to be the center of Taiwan Studies in the world.

Wu Tzu Ying from the Dept. Of Design Tops at Adobe Design Achievement Award

Hot springs of Jiaoshi, fishing culture in Suao are illustrated on the beautiful bento that with models of local food. When seeing those designs, locals who leave their country feel nostalgic and travelers feel amused. The designer is Wu Tzu Ying, a graduate student from the Department of Design who received the award for the 16th Adobe Design Achievement AwardPackaging Design in the commercial segment.
